Frequently Asked Questions

  • Our program may be right for you…

CBI is a full time, intensive, in-person program focused on biblical studies and ministry training, with the mission of raising up people to go into the ministry.  In ten months, we take our students through the entire Bible and give them practical experience serving in ministry. Students serve in various aspects of the ministry from youth, worship, tech, social media, coffee shop, and many more areas.  All of our teachers are Calvary Chapel pastors and leaders who are doing the work of leading the lost to the Lord and edifying the saints.  CBI teachers also have a desire to raise up young people to go into the ministry and to share biblical knowledge and wisdom that they’ve gained through ministry experience.  After students complete the program, they have the opportunity to accept internships and meet needs at Calvary Chapel churches and trusted ministries from all over the country as well as internationally.  Previous graduates of CBI have served as missionaries, interns, worship leaders, janitors, assistant pastors and many more.

  • Where are you located?

All of this information pertains specifically to CBI Main Campus, located in Yucca Valley, California next to Joshua Tree.  This was the first and original CBI, and after its formation in 2016, God opened the door for more CBI’s to open all over the country and all around the world.  If you want more specific information on different campuses, make sure to look at the “Campuses” list on our website.

  • Do you offer Online Classes?

CBI does not offer any online classes.  Due to the ministry-training nature of our program, we choose to focus on in-person experiences and classes only.

But if you're looking for good online Bible school content, consider these options below!  These are trusted Bible schools that we love and can recommend without hesitation.

  • Is there an age requirement?

Yes.  To avoid tricky situations that arise from different age groups living together in the dorms and going through the same program together, we've found it necessary to focus our program towards young adults under the age of 30 years old only.

That being said, there are still many men and women over thirty years old who are looking to go deeper into God's Word and want to grow in serving Him better.  If this is the case for you, check out the other Bible program links in the “Online Classes” section above!

  • Can I take just one course?

CBI is an in-person ministry training program for young adults ages 18-30 that offers courses on each of the books of the Bible.  Each course offered comes in one of three different live formats: weekly classes taught by local pastors, block classes taught by a different teacher each week on a different book, and Bible survey classes where students receive Bible teachings through Chuck Tracks.

Unlike other colleges and programs, CBI requires every one of our students to take every one of our Bible classes, in addition to our Practical Ministry class and Servanthood class.  Our aim is to graduate a new class of biblically literate students every year, who have studied through the entirety of God’s Word in that time.  With that being said, our program is not designed to offer selected, individual courses to those who can’t commit to the regular, full time program.

  • Do you accept Financial Aid?

Because CBI is not accredited, we do not quality for the majority of grants and college scholarships.

  • Are there any scholarships available?

CBI does not have any scholarships available, as our tuition cost is already as low as we can currently afford.  We recommend writing to your church leadership to see if they might be interested in supporting you.  CBI is also open to creating a payment plan with students and families, if making regular payments throughout the course of a semester is preferable.

  • How do I make tuition payments?

There are two main methods of payment: online credit/debit card and mailing a check.

  1. To make an online payment with your credit or debit card, navigate to the “Admissions” tab on our website, and then go to “Pay Tuition” and follow the prompts from there.  Note that making a payment using credit/debit results in a 3.5% additional charge, due to the card service we use.

  2. To make a payment using a check, address the check to Calvary Bible Institute, and include the name of the student you’re making a payment for in the memo.  Our mailing address and physical address are the same:

  • Do you accept married couples?

You picked the best bible college to ask this question. We are very serious and very excited about married couples. Our President Jerel Hagerman went to bible college with his wife and Pastor Don McClure and his wife Jean went to bible college in England as a married couple.  Pastor Jerel and Pastor Don have designed our program and campus to accommodate married couples. In our dorm facility, we have five married couple dorms, these dorms are a little bit larger with a private bathroom and shower. We also can accommodate married couples with children. We have off-campus housing six blocks away, a 5-minute walk or a 1-minute drive.   We would love to begin the application process with you if you’re interested. Please call us at this number if you have more specific questions that need to be answered, or submit an interest form using the link below to start your application!
